4th January 2021
Our A2 CofC is a new Competency assessment set out as part of the new European Regulations, this will come into effect in the UK on the 1st January 2021. Having an A2 CofC certificate will allow you to operate within the Open Category / Subcategory A2.
The Subcategory A2 (fly close to people) allows the remote pilot to fly a C2 aircraft down to a maximum distance of 30m horizontally from uninvolved people. Or up to 5m in ‘low speed mode’ when finalised by the CAA.
During our 1 day course we will cover 3 modules as set out by the CAA; Meteorology, UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Flight Performance and UAS Operating Principles. Some of the basics we will cover are Emergencies, weather impacts and battery safety, to finish off you will sit a multiple choice theory test.
Anyone who is looking to fly sub 4kg drones that fall into the C2 category.
A2 Subcategory of the Open Category, you can fly C2 type Aircraft. C2 aircraft has a MTOM less than 4kg, is equipped with a ‘low-speed mode’ has been ‘safely built’ includes geo-awareness systems and noise limitations.
Currently we have no drones available to buy that fall within the C2 Category so for the moment, December 2020 – January 2023 you can fly your existing aircraft in the A2 subcategory if it weighs less than 2kg. These aircraft will become known as legacy aircraft from January 1st 2021.
Some ‘legacy’ aircraft include the DJI Mavic 2 series, Mavic Mini, Spark, Mavic Air, DJI Phantoms, Parrot Anafi, etc…
